== Geography ==
The Arctic Ocean occupies the central part of the Arctic region. Most of its waters lie within or near the [[Arctic Circle]], with the North Pole situated over the central ocean. [[Greenland]] separates much of the ocean from the northern Atlantic, while the northern coasts of Canada and [[Alaska]] form its North American boundary. The northern coast of [[Russia]] extends along its Eurasian side, and [[Norway]] borders its Atlantic approaches.

The [[Greenland Sea]] provides a deep connection between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. Farther east, the [[Norwegian Sea]] and [[Barents Sea]] carry Atlantic water toward the Arctic. The [[Kara Sea]] lies between Novaya Zemlya and the Russian mainland. Beyond it, the [[Laptev Sea]] and [[East Siberian Sea]] border the Siberian coast.

The [[Chukchi Sea]] lies north of the Bering Strait and receives water from the Pacific Ocean. The [[Beaufort Sea]] extends north of Alaska and western Canada. Bays, straits and island waters divide the North American side of the ocean, particularly throughout the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
