== Origins ==
[[Dragos Ionuț]] founded the Butchers in [[Bucharest]] in 1496. The organization began as a decentralized resistance network that protected local supporters and opposed noble economic control. Dragos later established the [[House of Ionuț]]. A person entered the House register after pledging loyalty to him and accepting its rules.<ref name="dragos-legacy"/>

[[Grozav Ionuț]] killed Dragos and seized the Butchers on 23 November 1521. He claimed the House on 24 November 1521. Maria Ionuț and Dragos's other children formally rejected him on 2 December 1521 during the [[1521 Ionuț succession crisis]]. [[Stefan Ionuț]] removed Grozav from leadership on 18 December 1521. [[Mihai Ionuț (House of Ionuț head)|Mihai Ionuț]] restored the House on 12 April 1522.
