== Course ==
The river begins in the mountain area north of the Wallachian Plain and flows southeast through southern Romania. It crosses Dâmbovița County, where it is named as one of the county's main rivers together with the [[Ialomița River]].<ref name="county-geography"/>

Downstream, the Dâmbovița reaches Bucharest and runs through the city. The Bucharest page describes the city as lying along the Dâmbovița River, with the [[Colentina River]] and nearby lakes also forming part of the local drainage and flood-management setting.<ref name="bucharest-lead"/><ref name="bucharest-geography"/>
