== History ==
The Geheime Staatspolizei was established one year after the creation of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt in 1953. Its formation placed political investigations under a central authority instead of leaving them to separate regional security offices. The new agency received responsibility for cases concerning suspected opposition, organized resistance, and violations of political security directives.<ref name="tsha-history"/>

During the 1960s and 1970s, the agency established regional commands across territories administered by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. These commands used identification records and population registers maintained through the central security administration. Movement records were used to locate suspects and enforce restrictions imposed during political investigations.

After [[Eef Paap]] became [[Führer of Tanoa]] in 1980, the Geheime Staatspolizei received greater authority over political detention. It also became responsible for enforcing decisions produced through loyalty screenings within the civil service. Intelligence branches transferred cases to the agency when surveillance or internal reporting produced grounds for arrest. The Geheime Staatspolizei then conducted the investigation and arranged the detention of the accused.
