== Early life and education ==

Lorenzo Nostrini was born on 8 August 1716 in Dipignano, in [[Calabria Citra]], then part of the [[Kingdom of Naples]]. His family worked in local property administration near [[Cosenza]].

Nostrini began parish instruction in Dipignano on 2 October 1724. He learned Latin reading, written accounts, and the preparation of household papers. On 16 November 1730, he entered clerical instruction in Cosenza as a lay pupil. He left on 19 July 1734 and began work under a local notary on 6 September 1734.
