== Geography ==

The Mediterranean Sea stretches from the Strait of Gibraltar in the west to the eastern Mediterranean near the [[Levant]] in the east. It is almost enclosed by land and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow passage between [[Spain]] and [[Morocco]].

The northern coast includes parts of [[Spain]], [[France]], [[Monaco]], [[Italy]], [[Slovenia]], [[Croatia]], [[Bosnia and Herzegovina]], [[Montenegro]], [[Albania]], [[Greece]], and [[Turkey]]. The southern coast includes parts of [[Morocco]], [[Algeria]], [[Tunisia]], [[Libya]], and [[Egypt]]. The eastern coast includes parts of Turkey, [[Syria]], [[Lebanon]], [[Israel]], and adjacent territories.

The sea contains several connected basins, channels, and regional seas. These include the [[Adriatic Sea]], [[Ionian Sea]], [[Aegean Sea]], [[Tyrrhenian Sea]], [[Ligurian Sea]], [[Balearic Sea]], and the eastern Mediterranean.
