== Geography == Oltenia lies in southwestern Romania. It is bordered by the Southern Carpathians to the north, the Danube to the south and southwest, and the Olt River to the east. The Olt River forms the traditional boundary between Oltenia and Muntenia. The region includes plains, hills, river valleys, agricultural land, and mountain areas. Its main historical counties include Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinți, Olt, and Vâlcea. Craiova is located in Dolj County and is the largest city in the region.
