== Early period ==

The Großabschnitt Asien was established in 1980 as part of the wider creation of the [[Regional Großabschnitte]]. This reorganization took place shortly after [[Eef Paap]] became [[Führer of Tanoa]] and was intended to divide overseas administration, influence, and operational control into larger geographic commands.

At the same time, several other Großabschnitte were created to organize external regions connected to the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]]. These included [[SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Afrika]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Europa]], and [[SS-Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik]]. The creation of these commands allowed the central leadership in [[Georgetown]], [[Tanoa]], to issue orders through a smaller number of regional offices.

The Asian command was created for contact areas and eastern networks where the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen maintained liaison offices, transport connections, procurement channels, and political contacts. Its early work focused on reports, communication routes, personnel movement, and coordination with central offices.
