===Images===
Either of the images can be specified in <code>File:Picture_name_here.ext</code>, <code>Picture_name_here.ext</code>, or <code><nowiki>[[File:Picture_name_here.ext]]</nowiki></code> format. If you use the third option, you cannot use the alt, size, and caption parameters for that image, and must give these as parameters of the <code><nowiki>[[File:...]]</nowiki></code> statement (see [[Help:Images]] for these parameters and how to use them, and avoid using the <code>thumb</code> parameter).

The first image is intended to be a full [[heraldic achievement]], [[coat of arms]], or a [[Crest (heraldry)|crest]], [[heraldic badge|badge]], [[Seal (emblem)|seal]], [[emblem]], [[banner]], [[Standard (flag)|standard]], or other identifying symbol. Its size will be fairly constrained by default. A caption and alt text should be used to identify it.

The second image may be another thing of this sort, or something else entirely, such as an image of a founding/namesake person, [[family estate]], ancestral [[castle]], map of territory, etc. A caption and alt text should be used to identify it. Unless a very narrow image, it will use the full width of the infobox.

Both images are optional, and although the first one is the one typically used, use of the second does not require use of the first.

Appears immediately below the name in order to indicate type of family. Examples include: [[Imperial family]], [[Royal family]], [[Noble family]], [[Landed gentry family]], [[Patrician (post-Roman Europe)|Patrician family]], [[Burgher family]], [[Cadet branch]], [[Political family]], [[Family business|Business family]], [[Dynasty]], [[Clan]], etc.
