Editing Corina Mureșan (section)

== Academic career ==

Mureșan joined the [[Nicolae Iorga Institute of History]] in 1998 and specialized in Romanian history from 1918 onward. Her research covered the political and administrative development of Romania across the twentieth century. By 2025, she held the rank of Scientific Researcher Grade I at the institute.

In 2005, while studying the development of organized crime in post-war Romania, Mureșan began privately investigating the Bucharest Butchers. Colleagues and others around her repeatedly discouraged her from continuing because the organization remained powerful and had protection within Romanian institutions. Mureșan made clear that she would continue but increasingly concealed the extent of the project and kept most of her findings separate from her official work.
