Editing Bob Noord (section)

Personal life
Noord lives a reserved and isolated life. He regularly drinks beer and often spends time sitting in his parked BMW. He sometimes reviews old citations while sitting there and watches dark roads or the edges of forests.

He avoids daylight when possible. Forests and dark roads appeal to him outside his administrative work, while crowds and physical exertion irritate him. His speech is slow, with frequent pauses, and he can treat ordinary conversations in the same formal manner as an inspection.

Within the Noord family, he follows its hierarchy and considers its customs binding. He tolerates the Paap family because of its place within the wider family network, although he considers Paap behaviour excessively fast and chaotic.

His view of the Schroeter family is reflected in his treatment of Schroeter Romeo as a legitimate industrial institution in Vriendendam. He also tolerates Van Hetten family activity in the city and regards the family's machinery and technical habits as useful. Noord respects the industrial strength of the Hoos family, although he dislikes the noise and physical intensity that he associates with it.
