== Research into the Bucharest Butchers == Mureșan's main research concerned the transformation of the Bucharest Butchers following Dirlewanger's seizure of power in June 1945. Dirlewanger killed [[Ilie Ionuț]] on 16 June, assumed leadership on 18 June and oversaw the [[1945 Ionuț purge]], which ended on 27 June.<ref name="purge"/> Mureșan reconstructed how this takeover was followed by the centralization of the organization in 1948 and the development of its post-war financial structure during the 1950s.<ref name="butchers"/> Her work concentrated particularly on the period from 1945 to 1956. She studied the creation of the organization's financial reserves and the introduction of systematic bribery of officials in 1953. She also examined the creation of a permanent command council in 1956. Mureșan used these developments to trace how the organization created a structure capable of surviving under successive Romanian governments and continuing under Dirlewanger for decades.<ref name="butchers"/> Before 2025, Mureșan reconstructed much of this history by comparing records created outside the organization. She examined administrative files and property histories, then compared records held by different institutions when entries appeared inconsistent. She retained copies of relevant material and gradually assembled a private archive. Her later research followed the Butchers into the post-communist period, including the conversion of older properties into front businesses and the organization's relationship with [[Snubable Enterprise]] after 2007.<ref name="butchers"/> In 2012, Mureșan secretly entered a Butchers-linked property that she believed was no longer regularly occupied. She found internal documents and photographed them before leaving. This was the first genuine internal Butchers material she had obtained directly. The organization later detected that somebody had entered the property, although Mureșan did not know this at the time. An internal security note recovered in 2025 recorded the intrusion and the handling of stored material but did not identify the intruder. After the break-in, Mureșan began receiving anonymous telephone calls telling her to stop investigating the organization. Written warnings later appeared at her home, some referring to places she had recently visited. She reported the intimidation to police once, but the complaint was formally closed for lack of evidence. Mureșan continued her research without interruption, although she became more secretive about her archive and findings. Records recovered after the Butchers collapsed later confirmed that the organization had monitored her. No surviving record conclusively established who ordered the telephone calls or written warnings.
