== Human use and history ==
Snagov Monastery was established on an island near the northeastern end of the lake. A pedestrian bridge connects the monastery island to the mainland.

During the twentieth century, the lakeshore developed as a residential and recreational area north of Bucharest. Sheltered parts of the lake are used for rowing and boating. Private houses and boathouses occupy sections of the shoreline.

On 11 November 2016, [[Dorin Vasile Bălănescu]] murdered notary [[Adrian Corneșanu]] at a boathouse on the southern shore. Bălănescu rendered Corneșanu unconscious and placed him in the lake, where he drowned. Corneșanu's body was recovered near Snagov on 12 November. His death was initially recorded as a boating accident before investigators reopened the case in May 2025.<ref name="cornesanu-murder"/>
