At the age of 17, Paap stole a police car in [[Birmingham]] after finding it unattended during a disturbance near the A38 Bristol Road in [[Selly Oak]]. He drove the vehicle along Bristol Road before losing control and rolling it near the Selly Oak section of the route. Paap climbed out of the damaged vehicle and ran from the scene. Police arrested him later the same day.

The police car was written off, but no serious injuries were recorded. Paap was convicted in youth court for aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, and leaving the scene of a collision. He received a youth rehabilitation order with supervision, unpaid work, and a curfew requirement. He was also disqualified from driving for one year.
