:The production field states the date production started and the date production ended. Dates should be expressed in years (for example, <code>2001–2006</code>) or in months and years (for example, <code>April 2001 – November 2006</code>). Full dates should not be used in the production field of the infobox (for example, <code>7 April 2001 – 16 November 2006</code>); full dates can be stated in the body of the article.
:If production started in any year prior to the current year and is still ongoing, <code>2008–present</code>, et cetera, is the preferred style. However, <code>{{CURRENTYEAR}}–</code> is preferable to <code>{{CURRENTYEAR}}–present</code> while we are still in {{CURRENTYEAR}}.
:Production end dates should never be in the future (for example, <code>2001–{{#expr:{{#time:Y}}+2}}</code>), even if there are reliable sources. The end date should remain "present" until production has ended.
:Vehicles that have not yet entered production should state, <code>{{#expr:{{#time:Y}}+2}} (to commence)</code>.
:For vehicles sold in North America where the use of [[model year]]s is widespread, the <code>model_years</code> field of the infobox may be used in addition to <code>production</code>. See [[#model years|model years]] in this document for more information.
