'''Mihai Ionuț''' (14 December 1499 – 9 October 1558) restored the [[House of Ionuț]] after his elder brother, [[Grozav Ionuț]], killed their father and attempted to take the family leadership. Mihai organized the relatives who refused Grozav's claim during the [[1521 Ionuț succession crisis]] and became head of the restored House on 12 April 1522.<ref name="succession-crisis"/>

Mihai relied on household meetings and written decisions. His younger brother [[Stefan Ionuț]] commanded the armed members of the [[Bucharest Butchers|Butchers]], while Mihai negotiated between their mother and the other siblings. The brothers disagreed over individual commanders but did not challenge each other's position after the restoration.

== Place in Dragos's household ==
Mihai was born in [[Bucharest]] on 14 December 1499, the second child of [[Dragos Ionuț]] and Maria Ionuț. He grew up while Dragos was turning the early Butchers network into a permanent family organization. Mihai attended meetings at the family home and began recording decisions when disagreements arose between households.

Mihai treated recognition by the family as the basis of the House leadership and rejected Grozav's demand to succeed as the eldest son. He required each household to state its position before accepting a successor. Stefan secured support from the Butchers crews, but Mihai continued gathering decisions from family households.

== Refusal of Grozav ==
Grozav killed Dragos on 23 November 1521 and seized the Butchers. On 24 November 1521, he presented himself as head of the House. Mihai met separately with Maria, Stefan, [[Elena Ionuț]], and [[Irina Ionuț]] before gathering the loyalist households.

On 2 December 1521, Mihai read their rejection of Grozav's claim to the assembled family members. He continued visiting households that had not declared a position and asked each one to recognize either Grozav or the loyalist faction. Stefan used those decisions to identify which Butchers crews would remove Grozav's commanders. Grozav lost control on 18 December 1521 and fled west.

== Head of the restored House ==
Mihai waited until 12 April 1522, the anniversary of Dragos's birth, to restore the House. He ordered Grozav's claim preserved in the succession register but marked as rejected. Erasing the entry would have hidden the dispute from later descendants. [[Elena Ionuț]] remained responsible for the register and the House seals.<ref name="house-restoration"/>

Mihai did not take command of the Butchers after becoming head. Stefan retained control of the crews, and Irina continued carrying decisions to households outside Bucharest. Mihai required decisions involving membership or succession to be entered in the register before he treated them as settled. He continued this practice after Stefan's death in 1537.

Mihai remained head of the House for thirty-six years. He suffered a stroke at his home in Bucharest and died on 9 October 1558, aged 58.
