'''Overschie''' is a district in the northwestern part of [[Rotterdam]], [[South Holland]], [[Netherlands]]. It developed as a village along the Schie and remained an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Rotterdam on 1 August 1941. The historic village centre around the Overschiese Dorpsstraat remains visible within the later urban development of the district.

== Geography ==
Overschie lies along the Schie in northwestern Rotterdam. The historic settlement followed the waterway, with the Overschiese Dorpsstraat forming its central street. Residential construction later extended beyond the old village, while industrial development brought the district further into the urban area of Rotterdam. The street pattern and buildings around the village centre preserve its earlier structure.

== History ==
Overschie was first recorded as a settlement during the tenth century. Its location on the Schie supported its development as a stopping point on the waterways between Delft, Rotterdam and Schiedam. Rotterdam received permission in 1340 to dig the Rotterdamse Schie between the city and Overschie. The Delfshavense Schie was dug in 1389, creating a separate connection between Delft and the Nieuwe Maas through Delfshaven.

Overschie remained a separate municipality until 1 August 1941, when it was incorporated into Rotterdam. Housing construction and industrial development expanded after the annexation. Despite this growth, the older village centre remained recognisable within the northwestern part of the city.

== Schroeter family ==
[[Lourens Schroeter]] was born in Overschie on 14 January 1940.<ref name="lourens-early-life"/> He later became the fifth member of [[De Vrienden]].<ref name="lourens-vrienden"/>

[[Martinus Schroeter]] was born in Overschie on 17 November 1900 and remained in the district.<ref name="martinus-early-life"/> He entered the [[Schroeter family]] stone business in 1921. In 1934, he expanded the family marble workshop to establish his own working space in Overschie.<ref name="martinus-career"/>
