'''Rozenburg''' is a town and former municipality in [[South Holland]], [[Netherlands]]. It is part of the municipality of [[Rotterdam]] and lies in the western part of the Rotterdam port area, on the former island of Rozenburg.

== History ==
Rozenburg developed from sandbanks and polders in the mouth of the Maas. The first permanent settlement began in the late sixteenth century after diking work made the land usable. The name Roosenburch came into use for the area during this period.

The village was mainly agricultural for much of its early history. In the twentieth century, the expansion of the Port of Rotterdam changed the island. Botlek, Europoort, and later port works took over large parts of the former island. The village of Blankenburg disappeared during this development, while Rozenburg remained as the main residential settlement.

Rozenburg was an independent municipality until 18 March 2010, when it became part of Rotterdam.

== Geography ==
Rozenburg lies near the Nieuwe Waterweg and the Scheur, between Rotterdam’s western port areas and the water connections toward Maassluis, Voorne-Putten, and the Europoort area. The settlement is surrounded by port infrastructure, industrial areas, water, and green buffers.

== Local context ==
Rozenburg has a village character inside the wider Rotterdam municipal area. Its location gives it a direct connection to maritime work and port employment.

[[Joop Hugerinus Paap]] was born in Rozenburg and later worked in tanker operations.
