'''Secția Roșie''' ("Red Section") was an independent strike and enforcement unit of the [[Bucharest Butchers]]. [[Oskar Dirlewanger]] established it under [[Constantin Vlădescu]] in March 1967 after the [[1967 Băicoi weapons depot attack]]. The unit carried out the campaigns that destroyed the [[Brașov Bandits]] and the [[Cluj-Napoca Soulshredders]]. It later enforced Bucharest Butchers authority and protected [[Snubable Enterprise]]. Secția Roșie fragmented after Vlădescu was killed in the [[2025 Vlădeni ambush]] and collapsed with the Bucharest Butchers in May 2025.

== Formation and expansion ==
On 17 March 1967, Vlădescu attacked a Brașov Bandits weapons depot outside [[Băicoi]] with [[Sandu Ionuț]] and [[Erich Mußfeldt]]. Twenty-year-old [[Sorin Ionuț]] drove their vehicle. The operation killed eleven Bandits during the attack and pursuit. The attackers seized firearms before Mußfeldt burned the depot. Dirlewanger responded by placing Vlădescu in permanent command of a newly established independent unit. Sandu became deputy commander, and Sorin remained its driver. Mußfeldt returned to [[Hermann Florstedt]]. [[Lucian Vulturescu]] replaced him as the unit's breaching and demolition specialist several months later.

Secția Roșie established its first permanent headquarters in a converted Vlădescu meat warehouse in [[Obor]]. The unit had eight members by the end of 1968. Vlădescu recruited violent criminals and former soldiers, while Sandu supervised their training. Each candidate was required to complete an armed assignment without assistance. Sorin became chief driver and vehicle coordinator as the unit expanded.

The unit attacked a Brașov Bandits safe house in [[Sinaia]] in 1968 and captured adult prisoners. In 1969, it ambushed a weapons convoy near [[Ploiești]], killing the eight-person escort and seizing its vehicles. A 1972 attack on a Bandit-controlled restaurant in [[Codlea]] killed organization members and civilians. Secția Roșie also captured prisoners for Vlădescu's experiments and taxidermy work. Senior Bucharest Butchers leaders later authorized transfers to his villa outside Sinaia.

Central Bucharest Butchers funds paid for the unit's operations. It also retained assets seized from rival organizations. By December 1986, Secția Roșie had 36 members. Police records obtained that month revealed the remaining Brașov Bandits properties and allowed Vlădescu to prepare the final campaign against them.

== Destruction of the Brașov Bandits ==

From 12 to 17 September 1987, Secția Roșie destroyed the Brașov Bandits in Brașov County. Vlădescu deployed 29 members against 46 defenders at [[Conacul Mărgineanu]]. During the 14 September assault, he drove an improvised armoured DAC 665T through the main gate. Twenty-two Bandits and three Secția Roșie members died in the fighting. Six attackers were wounded. Bandits leader [[László Mărgineanu]] killed himself before Vlădescu reached him.

The unit captured the 23 surviving defenders and tortured them to death between 15 and 17 September. Adult relatives of Bandits were subjected to sexual violence during the reprisals. Vulturescu commanded attacks against eight additional safe houses, where Secția Roșie killed nineteen of the 27 Bandits present. Sandu transported the money and records seized from the mansion to Bucharest before leading an unsuccessful pursuit of the eight fugitives.

The Bucharest Butchers retained Conacul Mărgineanu as their regional headquarters. The Brașov Bandits ceased to exist on 17 September 1987.

== Campaign against the Soulshredders ==
After the Brașov campaign, Vlădescu identified the Cluj-Napoca Soulshredders as the final organization capable of challenging Bucharest Butchers influence across Romania. Secția Roșie mapped its personnel and properties during 1988. On 14 March 1989, the unit attacked a vehicle yard in [[Turda]] and captured documents describing Soulshredders transport routes. Explosives destroyed ''Casa Someșului'', a Cluj-Napoca restaurant used for collections and meetings, on 22 April. The unit destroyed ''Hanul Turzii'' near Turda on 17 June. Vulturescu prepared the charges for both restaurant attacks, while Vlădescu selected their timing. Dirlewanger suspended large attacks from 1 July 1989 until the end of 1991 because the bombings had attracted police attention.

During the [[Romanian Revolution]] in December 1989, Secția Roșie seized weapons and vehicles from unsecured state stores. The unit obtained a freight warehouse near Cluj-Napoca railway station in May 1990. On 16 May 1992, it seized railway-smuggling routes used by the Soulshredders, ending their access to revenue and supplies through the network.

On 18 September 1993, Vlădescu directed the bombing of ''Restaurantul Arieș'' in Turda. He led an attack on a Soulshredders apartment property in [[Mănăștur]] on 4 November 1994 and killed its senior commander. On 22 June 1996, Secția Roșie attacked a wedding in [[Gilău]] attended by Soulshredders and their families. Municipal records obtained on 12 November 1997 revealed that Soulshredders leader [[Grigore Cebotari]] controlled a disused factory in the Iris district of [[Cluj-Napoca]]. Secția Roșie had 60 members by 1998. Vlădescu selected 34 of them for the final assault.

== Iris factory assault ==

Secția Roșie attacked the Iris factory at 10:40{{nbsp}}p.m. on 18 October 1998. Fifty-eight Soulshredders defended the site. The fighting ended at 1:18{{nbsp}}a.m. on 19 October after 57 defenders and eight attackers had been killed. Eleven Secția Roșie members were wounded. Cebotari was captured alive and killed by Vlădescu after the fighting. Vulturescu supervised the burning of the factory.

The assault destroyed the Soulshredders and left no nationwide rival to the Bucharest Butchers. Vlădescu was promoted to Legion Commander on 1 January 1999 because Secția Roșie had become the organization's strongest independent strike force.

== Later activity and collapse ==
After 1998, Secția Roșie carried out internal enforcement and targeted killings under Vlădescu. The unit also suppressed attempts to establish new regional organizations. When the Bucharest Butchers took direct control of Snubable Enterprise in 2007, Vlădescu assigned rotating detachments to its facilities. These detachments guarded the factory perimeter and escorted sensitive deliveries. They also responded to attempted inspections under the agreement reached by Vlădescu and [[Richard Rambam]] on 27 August 2007.

[[Călin Vlădescu]] supported the unit through driving and reconnaissance during the Soulshredders campaign. He later became his father's personal driver and logistics coordinator. He held no command authority and did not participate in killings. Constantin intended to appoint him deputy commander, but the promotion did not occur before their deaths.

Vlădescu stopped leading ordinary field operations on 12 January 2015. Higher-ranking regional commanders continued reporting to him, and Secția Roșie transferred prisoners from other Bucharest Butchers units for his experiments. After the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]] collapsed on 30 November 2024, he ordered the unit to secure older Butchers properties and records.

Vlădescu and Călin were killed in Vlădeni on 18 February 2025. Secția Roșie had no recognized successor and fragmented after his death. The remaining structure collapsed with the Bucharest Butchers in May 2025.

== Organization ==
Vlădescu held permanent command from the unit's formation until his death. Sandu served as deputy commander and controlled training. Sorin managed the unit's drivers and vehicles. Vulturescu directed breaching and demolition work. Călin supported later logistics without receiving a command rank.

The Obor warehouse served as the original headquarters. Conacul Mărgineanu became the Bucharest Butchers' Brașov regional headquarters after 1987 and was used by Secția Roșie during its later operations. The unit maintained a freight property near Cluj-Napoca railway station from 1990.
