The Sicherheitsdienst von Eef Paap (SD) was the principal intelligence service of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It operated under the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt and collected information for the regime's leadership. The service also conducted counterintelligence and monitored political loyalty within Tanoan institutions. The agency succeeded the Sicherheitsdienst von Jan Paap in 1980, after Eef Paap became the Führer of Tanoa. It retained its headquarters in Georgetown, Tanoa, and remained active until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024. == History == The Sicherheitsdienst von Jan Paap was established in 1954, one year after the formation of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt. It created a centralized intelligence service for the identification of internal threats and the investigation of suspected espionage. During the 1960s and 1970s, it opened regional offices across Tanoa and other territories controlled by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Reports collected by these offices were stored in central archives in Georgetown. After Eef Paap was formally promoted to Führer on 6 November 1980, the former service was replaced by the Sicherheitsdienst von Eef Paap. The new agency inherited the personnel, offices and intelligence records of its predecessor. Its authority increased under Eef Paap, who used the service to examine the loyalty of government officials. The SD also monitored members of the military and employees of the civilian administration. During the 1980s and 1990s, the service supported internal purges ordered by the regime. Information collected by SD officers was used to identify people accused of disloyalty or ideological deviation. The agency continued operating until 30 November 2024, when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and the central institutions of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt ceased to function. == Organization and methods == The Sicherheitsdienst was divided into central departments in Georgetown and regional offices in territories governed by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The central departments reviewed intelligence reports and maintained personal files. They also directed counterintelligence investigations. Regional offices controlled informants and assigned officers to field surveillance. Although subordinate to the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt, the SD maintained its own command structure. The head of the service reported to Eef Paap on political security and strategic intelligence. By around 2020, the agency employed approximately 34,000 personnel. The commander commonly known as the SD Man served as the public representative of the service for much of its existence. His legal identity was not confirmed in state publications. He held the rank of SS-Oberstgruppenführer and was usually seen wearing a grey civilian suit. He was among the tallest senior officers of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and carried a gold-plated Walther P38. Most SD personnel worked in civilian clothing rather than military uniform. Officers assigned to covert work carried pistols, while units expecting armed resistance could be equipped with compact submachine guns. The service did not normally use heavy vehicles because it was organized for intelligence work rather than open combat. Members could carry a Soldbuch im Gold as evidence of their authority. Some also wore an armband bearing the insignia of the NSTAP, although these identifiers were usually concealed during surveillance work. The SD exchanged information with the Amt für Politische Sicherheit, which handled political reliability within the party and government administration. Cases requiring arrest or police enforcement were transferred to the Geheime Staatspolizei, Sicherheitspolizei or other security units. == Operations and crimes == The Sicherheitsdienst conducted intelligence operations within Tanoan territory and abroad. Its predecessor established covert networks in Europe and Africa during the late 1970s. In 1978, officers of the Sicherheitsdienst von Jan Paap were sent to Western European cities to monitor former Tanoan officials living outside the regime's territory. The Sicherheitsdienst von Eef Paap inherited these networks in 1980 and continued monitoring political contacts among Tanoan exile communities. In 1987, the SD expanded its work in southern Africa. Officers using commercial employment as cover monitored financial channels connected to Tanoan-controlled companies. They also collected information concerning shipping and mineral exports. During the early 2000s, the service conducted surveillance in Central Europe. Operations carried out around 2006 targeted critics of the regime and attempted to intercept communications used by anti-Tanoan networks. The SD carried out enforced disappearances and targeted killings under orders from the leadership of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It also participated in organized mass violence presented by the regime as state-security operations. One operation attributed to the service was the Night of the Black Death, in which large numbers of native inhabitants of Georgetown were killed after Eef Paap ordered a purge of the city. The operation was coordinated by the SD Man and carried out by arrest and execution units. During the 1980s and 1990s, small SD units assassinated former officials suspected of disloyalty. The service also targeted intermediaries accused of financial misconduct and people believed to have cooperated with hostile organizations. Concealed firearms were used to kill targets without deploying uniformed security formations. The Sicherheitsdienst maintained detention facilities outside the ordinary judicial system. Prisoners were interrogated through coercive methods, and some detainees disappeared from official records. Information obtained during these interrogations was entered into the central security archives and circulated among departments of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt. == See also == * Tanoa Einsatzgruppen * Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt * Sicherheitsdienst von Jan Paap * Geheime Staatspolizei * Allgemeine SS * SD Man * Night of the Black Death == References == {{Reflist|refs= <ref name="tsha-structure">"Structure".
