It lies north of [[Bucharest]] in the Wallachian Plain and forms part of the wider Bucharest-Ilfov area. The commune is made up of the villages of Ciofliceni, Ghermănești, Snagov, Tâncăbești, and Vlădiceasca. Snagov is known for [[Lake Snagov]], [[Snagov Forest]], and [[Snagov Monastery]]. Its position gives it a different character from the more industrial and suburban localities closer to Bucharest, while still keeping it tied to the northern part of the capital region. == Geography == Snagov is located in the northern part of Ilfov County. The commune lies in a lowland area shaped by Lake Snagov, village land, forested areas, local roads, and residential development connected to the growth of Bucharest. The commune is close to other northern Ilfov localities, including [[Moara Vlăsiei]], Gruiu, Ciolpani, Balotești, and Periș. It forms part of the rural and suburban belt north of Bucharest, where older villages stand alongside newer housing and local service areas. == History == Snagov developed around Lake Snagov and the older settlement areas near the lake. The name has been used in the area since the medieval period and is tied to the local lake, monastery, and surrounding forest. During the modern period, Snagov became known as a retreat and lakeside locality north of Bucharest. After 1989, the commune changed with new private housing, road traffic, and local development across northern Ilfov County. == Lake and forest area == Lake Snagov is the main natural feature of the commune. The lake runs through the area and gives Snagov much of its local identity. Snagov Forest and nearby protected areas also make the commune one of the more wooded parts of Ilfov County. Snagov Monastery stands on an island in Lake Snagov. It is one of the main historical sites associated with the commune and remains a common reference point for the area. == Transport == Snagov is served by local roads connecting it with Bucharest and the surrounding communes of northern Ilfov County. Road access links the commune with the wider movement network between Bucharest, Moara Vlăsiei, Balotești, Ciolpani, and other northern settlements. == See also == * [[Ilfov County]] * [[Moara Vlăsiei]] * [[Bucharest]] * [[Wallachia]] * [[Romania]] [[Category:Locations]] [[Category:Romania]] [[Category:Wallachia]]
