			At 9:14 p.m., Wilson struck Valeriu in the head with a glass bottle, stunning him and breaking his control over Petru. Petru then forced Valeriu off him and moved between Valeriu and Wilson. The fight became a direct hand-to-hand fight between Petru and Valeriu in the main area of the penthouse.

			At 9:15 p.m., Valeriu tried to draw a handgun during the fight. Petru kept closing distance to prevent him from aiming it, and the two fought over the weapon. The gun fired once during the struggle, grazing Petru's shoulder. Petru then knocked the weapon away and continued fighting Valeriu with his fists.

			The shot was heard by [[Ruben Istrate]], who was downstairs in the casino complex. Istrate went up to the penthouse armed with a gun and found Petru, Wilson, and Valeriu inside. After recognizing Valeriu, Istrate warned that Marku's side would continue sending men after them. The incident later influenced Petru's decision to send Istrate and Wilson away from Los Angeles for safety.

			Between 9:15 p.m. and 9:17 p.m., Petru gained full control of the fight. He was more skilled in close combat and did not leave Valeriu enough space to recover, retreat, or reach the handgun again. Valeriu appeared visibly scared as Petru continued closing distance and struck him repeatedly, knocking out several of his teeth.

			At 9:17 p.m., Petru drove Valeriu's head against the edge of a table, then pulled him up and continued the assault. Valeriu fell to the floor after further blows to the head. When he tried to stand again, Petru stomped on his head several times. Valeriu died inside the penthouse on 18 June 2024.

			Petru and Istrate later moved Valeriu's body to a field outside the city to bury it. While searching Valeriu's jacket, they found a note stating that Wilson was to be brought alive and delivered personally to Marku. The note angered Petru, who stabbed Valeriu's face several times before the body was buried.

			The killing ended Marku's attempt to take Wilson and remove Petru through Valeriu. It also created a personal grievance for Dorin Petrescu, whose loyalty to Marku deepened after Marku promised him revenge against Petru. In reality, Marku's main motive remained anger over his failure to take control of Petru's California network.
