Warendorf is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and the administrative seat of Warendorf district. It lies on the Ems in the eastern part of Münsterland, approximately 30 kilometres east of Münster. The municipality covers 176.88 square kilometres and has an elevation of approximately 57 metres above sea level.
The town developed beside a crossing of the Ems and retains a compact historic centre around its market square. Warendorf is connected to Münster and eastern Westphalia by regional roads and the Münster–Rheda-Wiedenbrück railway.
Jan Paap was born in Warendorf on 21 January 1919. He later served in the Wehrmacht and founded the organization that developed into the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[1]
