Elena Ionuț (27 July 1502 – 7 March 1572) was the keeper of the House of Ionuț records. She preserved its registers and seals during the 1521 Ionuț succession crisis. Elena was a daughter of Dragos Ionuț and Maria Ionuț and rejected Grozav Ionuț's claim after he killed Dragos.[1]
Succession crisis
Grozav seized the Butchers on 23 November 1521 and claimed the House the following day. Elena joined Maria and her siblings in refusing to recognize him. She removed the House registers and seals before Grozav could take control of them.
Elena kept the records with the loyalist family faction while Mihai Ionuț organized its leadership.
Restoration
Grozav was expelled on 18 December 1521. Mihai restored the House on 12 April 1522. Elena returned the registers and seals to the restored institution.[2]
Mihai confirmed Elena as keeper of the House records. She marked Grozav's succession claim as rejected and entered Stefan's death in the register in 1537. Elena also produced a duplicate register, which was stored separately from the main House archive. She died in Bucharest on 7 March 1572 after a winter respiratory illness.
