Early life
editSchroeter was born in Aegidienberg in 1825 to Lorenzo Schroeter and Magdalena Klasen. His parents were smallholders, and he grew up working on the family land.
He later married Gertrud Pütz, who came from a smallholder family near Stommeln.[1] After their marriage, Schroeter moved to her home area and settled in Stommelerbusch.
Family and work
editLaurenz and Gertrud kept a small plot in Stommelerbusch. Laurenz also earned money through woodland-clearing work.[1] They had several children. Their son Lorenz was born in Stommelerbusch on 25 May 1857 and was a middle child among his siblings.[1]
Lorenz left Stommelerbusch as a teenager and later settled in Kalk. When he became seriously ill with pneumonia in November 1896, Laurenz and Gertrud travelled from Stommelerbusch during his final week. Lorenz died on 3 December 1896.[2]
Death
editSchroeter remained in Stommelerbusch in old age. His health declined during 1916, and he became bedridden during his final weeks. He died at home later that year, aged about 90 or 91.
