History

edit

During the Middle Ages, Stommeln belonged to the Amt Bergheim of the Duchy of Jülich. Under French rule, it was administered as a mairie. After the area became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815, Stommeln became the seat of a Bürgermeisterei.

The administration was renamed Amt Stommeln in 1927. It was incorporated into Amt Pulheim in 1934, before Stommeln regained its own municipal administration in 1953. On 1 January 1975, the municipality was incorporated into Pulheim.

Gertrud Pütz came from a smallholder family near Stommeln. After marrying Laurenz Schroeter, she settled with him in nearby Stommelerbusch.[1]
