Casa di San Michele was a Nostrini family house in Aversa, north of Naples. It served as the main administrative seat of the northern branch during the succession dispute that followed the death of Domenico Nostrini. The Convocazione Settentrionale della Famiglia Nostrini was held there from 23 to 30 April 1811.[1]

History

[edit | edit source]

The Casa di San Michele was used by the northern branch of the Nostrini family before the 1811 convocation. Benedetto Nostrini entered service there on 16 March 1801 as a copy clerk, and Vittorio Nostrini entered the northern branch register there on 12 February 1802 as an assistant administrator.[2][3]

After the legal reforms in the Kingdom of Naples in 1806, the house became the working base for the northern branch's review of inheritance papers. Vittorio Nostrini was appointed procuratore del ramo settentrionale on 19 May 1808 and used the Aversa household as the centre of his claim to family authority.[3]

Domenico Nostrini died at Casa Nostrini in Cosenza on 18 November 1810. On 3 December 1810, Vittorio issued the lettera di convocazione, ordering the senior branch representatives to meet at Aversa.[4] The delegates arrived on 21 April 1811, and the convocation opened at the Casa di San Michele on 23 April 1811.[1]

The family council sat from 23 to 27 April 1811. The final vote was held on 28 April 1811 after Raffaele Nostrini supported Vittorio's relocation settlement. The Atto della Convocazione was signed on 30 April 1811. It recognized Vittorio Nostrini as capofamiglia, confirmed the authority of the main northern branch, and ordered the transfer of the central family archive from Calabria.[1]

The Statuto domestico Nostrini was copied and sealed on 12 May 1811. The first transferred archive chests reached the Casa di San Michele on 7 September 1811, where Benedetto Nostrini catalogued them for the northern household.[3][2]

Later use

[edit | edit source]

After the convocation, the Casa di San Michele remained the residence and administrative seat of Vittorio Nostrini. Alessandro Nostrini lived there after the 1811 settlement and died there on 14 March 1837.[5]

Benedetto Nostrini continued archive work at the house after the convocation. He was appointed archivista maggiore of the northern household on 6 January 1820 and retired from daily archive work on 1 April 1854. He died at the Casa di San Michele on 20 February 1858.[2]

Vittorio Nostrini remained at the house during his later years. He died there on 4 August 1884, ending the capofamiglia term that had begun with the final act of the 1811 convocation.[3]
