Lorenzo Nostrini (8 August 1716 – 27 September 1792) was an Italian land agent and the founding capofamiglia of the Nostrini family in Calabria. He established the family in Calabria on 14 September 1761 and was later treated as the family capostipite.[1] He is listed among the Early Foundation Era members of the Noord family.[2]

Early life and education

[edit | edit source]

Lorenzo Nostrini was born on 8 August 1716 in Dipignano, in Calabria Citra, then part of the Kingdom of Naples. His family worked in local property administration near Cosenza.

Nostrini began parish instruction in Dipignano on 2 October 1724. He learned Latin reading, written accounts, and the preparation of household papers. On 16 November 1730, he entered clerical instruction in Cosenza as a lay pupil. He left on 19 July 1734 and began work under a local notary on 6 September 1734.

Career

[edit | edit source]

Nostrini began formal work as a notarial clerk in Cosenza on 11 February 1738. His early duties concerned copied contracts, land papers, and correspondence for rural property holders.

On 3 April 1747, Nostrini became a private land agent for estates near Cosenza. His work gave him regular authority over rent papers, boundary statements, and account books. By 1756, he controlled a small household office that kept copied documents for relatives and clients in Calabria.

On 14 September 1761, Nostrini established the Nostrini family as a formal household line in Calabria.[1] The family seat developed at Casa Nostrini in Cosenza. Nostrini governed through written approvals and placed the household archive under his own seal.

During the late eighteenth century, the family built authority through estate management, clerical ties, local administration, and strict household control.[1] Nostrini remained capofamiglia until his death in 1792.

Personal life

[edit | edit source]

Nostrini married Caterina Ferraro Nostrini on 3 May 1743 at the church of San Giorgio in Cosenza. She died at Casa Nostrini on 12 January 1786.

Their son Domenico Nostrini was born at Casa Nostrini on 16 February 1744. Their daughter Teresa Nostrini was born there on 17 March 1747. Their son Antonio Nostrini was born at the same house on 29 January 1751.

Nostrini lived mainly at Casa Nostrini after 1761. Family measurements placed his height at 1.71 m.

Death

[edit | edit source]

Lorenzo Nostrini died on 27 September 1792 at Casa Nostrini in Cosenza. He was 76 years old.

Domenico Nostrini was accepted as capofamiglia on 6 October 1792. The family seat remained at Casa Nostrini, and the central archive stayed in Cosenza until the succession dispute that followed Domenico's death in 1810.
