Carlo Bellandi (6 June 1765 – 17 March 1846) was an Italian notary from Aversa. He served as notaio rogante during the Convocazione Settentrionale della Famiglia Nostrini, held from 23 to 30 April 1811 at the Casa di San Michele. He prepared the legal record of the meeting and the final signed act that recognized Vittorio Nostrini as capofamiglia of the Nostrini family.[1]
Early life and education
[edit | edit source]Carlo Bellandi was born on 6 June 1765 in Aversa, then part of the Kingdom of Naples. He belonged to a local notarial household that worked with property acts, marriage contracts, and copied legal instruments.
Bellandi began private instruction in Aversa on 18 September 1772. On 7 October 1778, he entered the Seminario vescovile di Aversa as an external lay pupil. He left the seminary on 24 June 1782 and began notarial training under Giacomo Ferrara on 12 November 1782. He received authority to work as a notarial assistant on 4 March 1787 and began independent practice in Aversa on 9 January 1789.
Career
[edit | edit source]Bellandi worked as a notary in Aversa from 1789. His practice handled property transfers, marriage instruments, succession papers, and certified copies for families with estates in Campania and Calabria.
By the 1790s, Bellandi was already connected to the northern branch of the Nostrini family. On 5 September 1794, Vittorio Nostrini began notarial instruction under him in Aversa. The training covered copied acts, property accounts, certified family records, and formal letters.[2]
On 3 November 1800, Benedetto Nostrini also began notarial instruction under Bellandi. His work under Bellandi gave him practical training in copied acts, signed minutes, and formal household correspondence.[3]
After the succession dispute that followed the death of Domenico Nostrini on 18 November 1810, Bellandi was asked to prepare the written order for the family convocation. On 26 February 1811, he prepared the first ordine della seduta, which fixed the speaking order, the use of proxy authority, and the method for signing the final act.[4]
The convocation opened at the Casa di San Michele on 23 April 1811. Bellandi attended as notaio rogante. The final vote was held on 28 April 1811, and the final decisions were recorded in the Atto della Convocazione, signed on 30 April 1811. Bellandi prepared the verbale della seduta and the Atto della Convocazione as the legal records of the meeting.[5]
Bellandi continued notarial work in Aversa after the convocation. He remained connected to the Casa di San Michele through marriage records, archive copies, and household instruments used by the northern Nostrini branch. He retired from regular notarial practice on 30 September 1844.
Personal life
[edit | edit source]Bellandi married Maddalena Sorbo at the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo in Aversa on 14 May 1791. Their daughter, Teresa Bellandi, was born on 2 December 1795. Maddalena Sorbo died on 11 January 1802.
On 6 May 1803, Bellandi married Lucia Nostrini at the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo. Lucia raised Teresa at Aversa after the marriage. Teresa later married Benedetto Nostrini on 16 February 1815, strengthening the working relationship between the Nostrini household and the Bellandi notarial family.[6]
Carlo and Lucia had two children. Pietro Bellandi was born on 18 August 1804 and died on 2 November 1831. Elisabetta Bellandi was born on 27 January 1808 and died on 24 June 1862.[7]
Bellandi's height was recorded as 1.76 m.
