Memoria familiare della Convocazione Settentrionale della Famiglia Nostrini was the internal family memorial written by Benedetto Nostrini after the Convocazione Settentrionale della Famiglia Nostrini. The first version was completed on 18 June 1811 at the Casa di San Michele in Aversa, then part of the Kingdom of Naples.[1]

The memorial recorded the cause of the dispute, the speaking order, the resolutions of the family council, and the objections raised by Saverio Nostrini and the southern party. Later Noord family records used Benedetto Nostrini's account for the internal history of the convocation.[2]

Background

[edit | edit source]

The Nostrini family was established in Calabria on 14 September 1761 by Lorenzo Nostrini. By the early nineteenth century, the family had branches in Calabria and in the area around Aversa and Naples. Legal reforms in the Kingdom of Naples in 1806 led the household to review estate papers, inheritance claims, and branch obligations.[3]

Domenico Nostrini died on 18 November 1810. On 3 December 1810, Vittorio Nostrini issued the lettera di convocazione, ordering the senior branch representatives to appear at Aversa. Saverio Nostrini delivered written objections on 17 January 1811. Carlo Bellandi prepared the first ordine della seduta on 26 February 1811.[4]

The delegates arrived at Aversa on 21 April 1811. The convocation opened at the Casa di San Michele on 23 April 1811. From 23 to 27 April, the family council heard statements from the main branches. The final vote was held on 28 April 1811, and the final act was signed on 30 April 1811.[5][6]

Benedetto Nostrini was appointed segretario della convocazione on 23 April 1811. He wrote the internal notes of the sittings and kept the speaking order used by the family council. His notes followed the dispute between Vittorio Nostrini and Saverio Nostrini over the position of capofamiglia and the location of the central family archive.[7]

After the Atto della Convocazione was signed, Benedetto Nostrini remained at the Casa di San Michele and began the Memoria. The first version was completed on 18 June 1811. On 7 September 1811, he catalogued the first transferred archive chests received at Aversa after the settlement.[8]

The memorial repeated the household titles used at the convocation. Benedetto Nostrini was listed as segretario della convocazione, and Carlo Bellandi was listed as notaio rogante. The memorial also preserved the positions of the main branch representatives, including Vittorio Nostrini as capofamiglia, Saverio Nostrini as capo del ramo calabrese, and Raffaele Nostrini as capo del ramo ionico.[9]

Later use

[edit | edit source]

The Memoria became the main family account of the succession dispute between the northern and Calabrian branches. It was used with the Atto della Convocazione and the Statuto domestico Nostrini to preserve the internal account of the 1811 settlement.[1]

Benedetto Nostrini was appointed archivista maggiore of the northern household on 6 January 1820. In that role, he supervised copies of the Statuto domestico Nostrini, branch letters, and succession papers used by Vittorio Nostrini.[10]

The memorial remained tied to the family movement that followed the 1811 settlement. Between 1812 and 1819, the moving branches began using the surname Norte in northern records, while the older Nostrini name remained tied to the Calabrian origin of the family.[11]
