Warendorf is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and the administrative seat of Warendorf district. It lies on the Ems in eastern Münsterland, approximately 30 kilometres east of Münster. The municipality covers 176.88 square kilometres and has an elevation of approximately 57 metres above sea level.

The central town developed beside an Ems crossing. It is connected with Münster and eastern Westphalia by regional roads and the Münster–Rheda-Wiedenbrück railway.

Jan Paap was born in Warendorf on 21 January 1919.[1] He joined the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany in 1936 and served until his desertion in 1944.[2] After leaving Europe, he founded the Argentine Einsatz, which later developed into the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[3]
