North Rhine-Westphalia (German: Nordrhein-Westfalen) is a state in western Germany. Its capital is Düsseldorf, while Cologne is its largest city. The state covers 34,112.31 square kilometres.
The western part of the state lies along the Rhine. Westphalia occupies most of the northern and eastern territory. North Rhine-Westphalia borders the Netherlands and Belgium to the west. Within Germany, it borders Lower Saxony, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.
The state is divided into the administrative regions of Arnsberg, Detmold, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Münster. Warendorf lies within the Münster administrative region.
