The Vrienden Universe started as a project back in 2019, when Perri Kuskan began creating characters on the "DeLijersDeVrienden" Fandom, which was deleted in early 2026. After that deletion, he and his friend Jakob thought of the idea to start a new project, a dedicated site for the alternative-history world they had been building. With the help of the pre-VU (Vrienden Universe) written history from the Fandom, they have grown to just under 500 pages within half a year after its creation.
The Universe itself is a continuity that officially starts in the year 1400 and is still ongoing as of 2026. This means there are also real-life events that have been altered to suit the events of the fictional Universe.
Originally, it was based on the story of 5 friends, Angelo Noord, Martin Paap, Imro van Hetten, Eef Hoos and Lourens Schroeter. It started as a joke, 5 Dutch men who just did whatever they felt like doing until we wanted more characters, and as our "world" grew, it became a continuity with events that they had been through, such as the 2017 Takistan War, where Martin Paap and Khalid Bin Thani conflicted so much that they ended up in a war. But there are also good sides of the original story, such as the 5 Vrienden going on a road trip together to France, where they would go through storms, picnics, arguments and a lot of drinking. Then it grew to more jokes, such as the original comedic story between Eef Paap and Evert Angedrik Noord.
This eventually resulted in the creation of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Eef Paap, the son of a dictator (Jan Paap), inherited the "Reich" of his father, which had overtaken Fiji and its surroundings, along with Argentina (and its surroundings), as well as parts of Africa, and heavily influenced the world and had a lot of indirect control over other countries, such as Spain. Which brings us to Mark Hugerinus Paap, the "Lone Wolf". The person who lost his family in the plane crash above the island of Tanoa, which was shot down by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen to cover it up as a "terrorist" act of the Tanoan resistance. Many people of the world believed it, but Mark, who lost his wife and 2 kids, didn't.
This made him travel to Tanoa and look for answers, where he witnessed the brutalities the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen really committed against the natives, and as he went off the paths into the jungles to look for answers, he was intercepted by Tanoan SS soldiers, who chased him, but he outran them and left the island again. Then, he started entering again, looking for more answers, talking with natives until he realized who really did it, and that it needed to be stopped, the dictatorship, the control of the world. Initially doing it for himself and his family, he ended up doing it for the entire world.
In 2019, he created the Fish Collective together with his cousin John Hugerinus Paap, and they decided to do what they could to take the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen down because they had nothing to lose anyway. And they grew. More people joined the Fish Collective. His French cousin, Hugo Hugerinus Paap, also ended up joining it and helped resistance fighters take down the Bucharest Butchers in Romania. On 24 November 2024, the birthday of Mark Hugerinus Paap, Mark killed Eef Paap and later died at the beach himself.
