Abdelkrim El Berkani (born 12 September 1972) is a Moroccan-Belgian maintenance worker based in Antwerp, Belgium. He founded Berkani Dakgotenservice in 2011 and is a member of Rotterdam-Zuid (faction).
Career
[edit | edit source]El Berkani began working in maintenance in Antwerp during the 1990s. His early work came through the Moroccan-Belgian community in the city, where he became known for practical repair work.
By the 2000s, El Berkani had moved into roof-drainage work. He used his mechanical experience to repair his own work equipment and keep his costs low.
In 2011, El Berkani founded Berkani Dakgotenservice in Antwerp. The company provided gutter-cleaning and roof-drainage maintenance through direct contact with customers. El Berkani handled the practical work himself and kept the company small.
El Berkani carried out cheaper undeclared work through his personal network. These jobs were paid directly and were not reported for tax purposes.
The company became locally known for disputes after rejected service offers. When residents refused gutter-cleaning work, El Berkani and workers from the company sometimes argued outside the property. The repeated confrontations became part of the company’s local reputation.
Rotterdam-Zuid affiliation
[edit | edit source]El Berkani is a member of Rotterdam-Zuid (faction). His membership is tied to the faction's Belgian Moroccan network.
His position in Antwerp gave Rotterdam-Zuid a Belgian contact outside the Netherlands.
Legal history
[edit | edit source]On 18 May 2018, El Berkani was arrested in Antwerp after police found him carrying a revolver without the required authorisation. The revolver was seized during the arrest.
In 2019, El Berkani was convicted by the correctional court in Antwerp for unlawful carrying of a firearm.
