The Argeș River is a river in southern Romania. It is a left tributary of the Danube and one of the main rivers of the southern part of the country.
The river begins in the Făgăraș Mountains, in the Southern Carpathians. Its upper course is formed by mountain streams including the Capra River and Buda River, which flow into the area of Lake Vidraru. From there, the river passes through Curtea de Argeș and Pitești before continuing across the Wallachian Plain toward the Danube near Oltenița.
The Vidraru Dam and Lake Vidraru are located on the upper section of the river. The river is used for hydroelectric power, water supply, flood control, and other water-management purposes.
