Georgios Nikolopoulos (21 November 1750 – 3 October 1846) was a Greek-born maritime merchant and an early member of the Paap family. He left the Peloponnese with his family in 1770 and later settled in Rotterdam, where he established his own household and worked in maritime trade. His son Aris Hugerinus Paap became the first bearer of the Hugerinus name.

Early life

Georgios was born in the Ottoman-controlled Peloponnese to merchant Nikolaos Nikolopoulos and Despina Papadopoulou. He was raised in the family's Greek Orthodox household.

In 1770, Georgios left the Peloponnese with his parents and surviving siblings during the suppression of the Orlov Revolt. The household eventually reached the Dutch Republic. Georgios later settled in Rotterdam.

Life in Rotterdam

Georgios worked as a maritime merchant in Rotterdam and remained Greek Orthodox after settling in the Netherlands. He married Cornelia Verzee, a Dutch woman from Rotterdam, on 9 June 1776.

Their son Aris Hugerinus Paap was born on 24 November 1778. Georgios gave him the additional name Hugerinus because the word used in the Book of Paap was meaningful to him. He did not intend to establish a prophetic family branch, but Aris became the first bearer of the name and the ancestor of the Hugerinus lineage.

Georgios remained in Rotterdam for the rest of his life. He died there on 3 October 1846 at the age of 95.
