Sophia Nikolopoulou (12 September 1756 – 1770) was a Greek member of the Nikolopoulos household, the family from which the Paap family later developed. She died at the age of 13 during the family's escape from the Peloponnese in 1770.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Sophia was born in the Ottoman-controlled Peloponnese to merchant Nikolaos Nikolopoulos and Despina Papadopoulou. She was raised in the family's Greek Orthodox household and was one of their eight children.[1]
In 1770, the household left the Peloponnese during the suppression of the Orlov Revolt. Sophia travelled with her parents and surviving siblings during the escape.[2]
Death
[edit | edit source]During the flight, Sophia became separated from the rest of the family and was overtaken by Ottoman soldiers. The surviving members of the household could not reach her without risking the rest of the group and were forced to continue the escape. Sophia was killed before she could rejoin them. She was 13 years old.[3]
The surviving members of the household continued their journey and eventually reached the Dutch Republic.
