Teelt-Tyres is a Japanese tire manufacturer headquartered in Yokohama. The company was founded by Dutch businessman Pieter Noord in 1986. It initially produced replacement tires for passenger cars and entered the performance-tire market in 2001. Its main manufacturing plant is located in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture.
History
[edit | edit source]Pieter Noord moved from Rotterdam to Yokohama in 1983. He spent the following years studying the Japanese tire market before founding Teelt-Tyres in 1986. The company initially concentrated on replacement tires for ordinary passenger cars.
Teelt-Tyres began exporting tires to the Netherlands and Italy in 1994. These were its first export markets outside Japan.
In 2001, the company introduced its first performance tire. This expanded its product range beyond its established replacement tires.
Ownership and management
[edit | edit source]Teelt-Tyres remains fully owned by Pieter Noord, who serves as its president. His daughter, Aya Noord, serves as managing director and oversees the company's daily management under his presidency. She is expected to assume control of Teelt-Tyres after his retirement.
Manufacturing
[edit | edit source]The company's headquarters are located in Yokohama. Tire production takes place at its main manufacturing plant in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture.
