== Early period ==

The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik was established in 1980 as part of the wider creation of the [[Regional Großabschnitte]]. This system was introduced after [[Eef Paap]] became [[Führer of Tanoa]] and reorganized the external command structure of the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]].

At the same time, several other regional commands were created to organize overseas territories, aligned administrations, and foreign operational networks. These included [[SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Afrika]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Europa]], and [[SS-Großabschnitt Asien]]. The creation of these commands allowed the central leadership in [[Georgetown]], [[Tanoa]], to issue instructions through a smaller number of regional offices.

The North Atlantic command was created for transport routes, contact points, and external coordination areas linked to the northern maritime network. Its early work focused on reporting, shipping contact, secure communication, and coordination between Tanoan offices and support structures operating across the Atlantic region.

The command was not created as a colonial government. It acted as a regional command layer for offices, personnel, and liaison channels connected to the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]].
