The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik (English: Greater District North Atlantic), also referred to as SS-Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik, was the regional command of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen for North Atlantic routes, contact points, external coordination areas, and support structures operating around the North Atlantic. It formed part of the Regional Großabschnitte system and operated under the authority of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
The command did not function as a civilian government over the North Atlantic region. Its role was to coordinate Tanoan regional activity, maintain communication with contact points, supervise transport and security liaison, and forward reports to the central leadership in Georgetown, Tanoa. It also supported maritime coordination, external political contact, and administrative communication between North Atlantic-linked offices and the wider state structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
Early period
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik was established in 1980 as part of the wider creation of the Regional Großabschnitte. This system was introduced after Eef Paap became Führer of Tanoa and reorganized the external command structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
At the same time, several other regional commands were created to organize overseas territories, aligned administrations, and foreign operational networks. These included SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik, SS-Großabschnitt Afrika, SS-Großabschnitt Europa, and SS-Großabschnitt Asien. The creation of these commands allowed the central leadership in Georgetown, Tanoa, to issue instructions through a smaller number of regional offices.
The North Atlantic command was created for transport routes, contact points, and external coordination areas linked to the northern maritime network. Its early work focused on reporting, shipping contact, secure communication, and coordination between Tanoan offices and support structures operating across the Atlantic region.
The command was not created as a colonial government. It acted as a regional command layer for offices, personnel, and liaison channels connected to the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
Expansion and operations
[edit | edit source]During the 1980s and 1990s, the Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik became an important regional coordination office within the external structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its area of responsibility covered North Atlantic routes and contact points used for transport, political liaison, supply movement, and communication between Tanoa, Europe, Africa, and the wider Atlantic network.
The command helped coordinate the movement of personnel, records, technical material, and supplies through approved maritime and air routes. Its reports were used by central institutions to assess transport security, the reliability of contact points, and the condition of external support structures.
The Großabschnitt did not hold direct territorial authority over independent states in the region. Its authority applied to Tanoan personnel, attached offices, liaison structures, and operational networks connected to the regime. Local governments and external institutions were not formally subordinate to the command, although the office maintained contact with approved intermediaries and affiliated support channels.
Because of its position between several regional command zones, the Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik regularly handled cross-regional coordination. It worked with SS-Großabschnitt Europa on European-linked transport and procurement routes, with SS-Großabschnitt Afrika on Atlantic movement connected to African territories, and with SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik when routes extended into southern maritime areas.
North Atlantic liaison network
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik relied on liaison offices, maritime contact points, transport intermediaries, and reporting channels. These structures handled routine communication with shipping contacts, security personnel, administrative representatives, and support networks connected to Tanoan operations.
The command was responsible for receiving reports from these contact points and forwarding relevant information to central offices in Tanoa. Reports commonly covered route security, access to ports, movement of personnel, financial channels, communications reliability, and the political condition of external contacts.
The Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten was involved when North Atlantic activity required foreign political contact, intermediaries, or contact with external administrations. The Amt für Regionale Politische Verwaltung provided political oversight for the regional command system, while the Amt für Staatliche Rechtsordnung was connected to legal and administrative rules applied by the regime.
The Großabschnitt also maintained contact with intelligence and security structures when maritime routes or external contact points were considered vulnerable. These reports were reviewed through the wider command system of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
Later years
[edit | edit source]During the 2010s and early 2020s, the Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik continued to operate as a regional command office within the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its work remained centered on regional reporting, transport coordination, security liaison, and communication with support structures operating around the North Atlantic.
By this period, the command was increasingly focused on the reliability of contact points and the security of movement between regions. Reports sent to Georgetown, Tanoa, covered maritime access, financial disruption, personnel movement, political contact, and risks to external communication.
The weakening of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in 2024 affected the North Atlantic command directly. Communication with central offices became less reliable, financial and transport routes were disrupted, and several external contacts became inactive. After the death of Eef Paap and the collapse of central authority, the command lost its ability to function as part of the wider state structure.
The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik remained active until the formal dissolution of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.
Structure
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik was organized as a regional command office of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It coordinated transport reporting, maritime liaison, political contact, personnel movement, security communication, and administrative correspondence between North Atlantic-linked contact points and the central leadership in Tanoa.
The command operated under the authority of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It was part of the wider Regional Großabschnitte framework and did not issue independent laws. Political, legal, and administrative directives came from central institutions of the regime.
The command staff managed registry files, correspondence, transport reports, security assessments, personnel assignments, and liaison records. Local contact points and attached offices were expected to report through the Großabschnitt before routine requests were sent to central offices.
Governance and administration
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik functioned as a regional administrative command responsible for implementing directives issued by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen within North Atlantic-linked routes, offices, and external coordination areas. It was not a ministry, court, legislature, or independent government.
Political supervision of the regional command system was connected to the Amt für Regionale Politische Verwaltung. External political coordination was handled through the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten when liaison work involved foreign contacts or political intermediaries. Legal and administrative rules were connected to the Amt für Staatliche Rechtsordnung.
Within its assigned sector, the Großabschnitt supervised the practical handling of reports, contact records, transport requests, and security liaison. Its work helped connect North Atlantic contact points with the wider command structure of the regime.
Leadership
[edit | edit source]No named commander of the Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik is currently documented. The command is therefore listed without an individual Großabschnittsführer. Its authority remained subordinate to the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and the central command structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
