The Justizbeamte were a judicial enforcement sub-department of the Strafvollzugsdienst, which itself formed part of the Ordnungspolizei under the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Established in 1977, the unit was responsible for enforcing judicial decisions and maintaining order within the regime’s court and detention system.

Organization

The Justizbeamte operated as court and judicial officers with full policing authority. While administratively subordinate to the Strafvollzugsdienst, they were assigned specifically to court security, prisoner escort, and enforcement of judicial rulings.

Their duties included transporting detainees between prisons and courtrooms, supervising trials, guarding judicial officials, and executing court-issued warrants and sentences. They also coordinated with investigative and prison branches when handling transfers or high-risk detainees.

Uniform and insignia

Members of the Justizbeamte did not wear standard police uniforms. Instead, they wore civilian-style suits, usually dark in color, in order to reflect their judicial function.

Despite their formal appearance, they carried service pistols in holsters. Rank insignia were displayed on their suit jackets, marking their position within the Ordnungspolizei hierarchy through the Strafvollzugsdienst structure.

Authority

As a component of the Strafvollzugsdienst within the Ordnungspolizei, the Justizbeamte possessed arrest powers and the authority to use force when enforcing judicial orders. Their jurisdiction covered all territories administered by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

The department remained active until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.
