The Kriminalpolizei (Kripo) was the criminal investigation branch of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It operated under the authority of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt (TSHA) and was responsible for investigating non-political criminal offenses within territories controlled by the regime.
History
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei was formally established in 1953 as part of the creation of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt. Its foundation marked the centralization of criminal investigations under a unified security authority within the structure of the Allgemeine SS.
Before 1953, criminal cases were handled by regional enforcement offices with limited coordination and inconsistent documentation standards. Following its incorporation into the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt, investigative procedures were standardized. Reporting formats, evidence archiving, and identity cross-referencing systems were centralized at the headquarters in Georgetown.
During the territorial expansion of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in the 1960s and 1970s, the Kriminalpolizei extended its operational reach beyond Tanoa. Regional investigative offices were established in controlled territories, operating under direct administrative supervision from Georgetown.
In 1987, the Kriminalpolizei conducted a large-scale internal investigation known as the Georgetown Industrial Fraud Case. The operation targeted coordinated falsification of industrial supply records and unauthorized diversion of construction materials intended for state infrastructure projects.
In 2006, the agency conducted coordinated enforcement actions during the Registration Enforcement Campaign of 2006, targeting irregular labor classifications and falsified residence documentation. These operations strengthened integration between criminal investigations and centralized registration databases.
The Kriminalpolizei remained active until 30 November 2024, when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen collapsed and its administrative structure was dissolved together with the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt.
Responsibilities
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei was responsible for investigating offenses classified as criminal under regime law and not defined as political matters. Its jurisdiction covered civilian areas and state-regulated economic sectors within territories controlled by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
Its responsibilities were structured according to departmental divisions:
- Violent crimes, including homicide and serious bodily harm
- Organized criminal networks and repeat offenders
- Property crimes, including theft and large-scale fraud
- Financial misconduct, currency violations, and unauthorized trade
- Black market operations and resource diversion
- Violations of labor allocation and residence registration regulations
Economic and financial offenses were given particular attention due to their direct connection to centralized revenue systems, labor classification frameworks, and state planning mechanisms.
All investigations were documented in standardized case files and transmitted to the central administration of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt for review and archival registration.
Organization
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei was divided into numbered departments (Abteilungen), each with defined investigative authority. All departments reported directly to the central administration of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt.
Abteilung I – Allgemeine Kriminalermittlung (General Criminal Investigation)
[edit | edit source]This department handled serious criminal offenses, including homicide, violent crime, and organized criminal activity. It coordinated regional investigation units and supervised complex cases.
Abteilung II – Forensisches Institut und Beweisdokumentation (Forensic Institute and Evidence Documentation)
[edit | edit source]This department managed forensic analysis, technical examinations, and centralized evidence archiving. It maintained standardized documentation procedures for all case files.
Abteilung III – Wirtschafts- und Finanzkriminalität (Economic and Financial Crime)
[edit | edit source]This department investigated fraud, black market operations, financial irregularities, and violations of state economic regulations. It worked closely with fiscal and administrative authorities.
Abteilung IV – Registratur und Identitätskontrolle (Registry and Identity Control)
[edit | edit source]This department verified identification records, residence status, and labor classification data connected to criminal investigations. It ensured that case files were integrated into the centralized registration system.
All documentation followed standardized filing regulations. Case files were cross-referenced with identification records and residence documentation systems maintained by the central security administration.
Methods
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei used investigative procedures including interrogation, document analysis, financial tracing, and coordinated enforcement operations with other security branches.
It maintained access to central registration databases and labor classification records. Cooperation with the Tanoanischsicherheitsdienst allowed for coordinated arrests and detention procedures when required.
Although it did not serve as a combat unit, the Kriminalpolizei had enforcement authority within civilian areas under regime control.
Leadership
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei was led by Víctor Alejandro Schladenberg, who held the rank of SS-Obergruppenführer and served as the overall head of the organization. In this role, he oversaw the central administration, investigative departments, and regional criminal investigation offices under the authority of the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt.
Dissolution
[edit | edit source]The Kriminalpolizei ceased operations on 30 November 2024 following the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its investigative network and administrative structure were dismantled together with the Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt.
