The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik (English: Greater District South Atlantic and Pacific), also referred to as SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik, was the regional command of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen for South Atlantic and Pacific-linked territories, island networks, maritime routes, and overseas support structures. It formed part of the Regional Großabschnitte system and operated under the authority of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
The command did not function as a civilian government for the entire South Atlantic or Pacific Ocean region. Its authority applied to Tanoan personnel, regional offices, attached liaison structures, maritime contact points, and island-linked support networks connected to the regime. Its main role was to coordinate maritime access, island administration, transport routes, regional communication, and reporting between Tanoa and overseas support networks.
Early period
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik was established in 1980 as part of the wider creation of the Regional Großabschnitte. This system was introduced after Eef Paap became Führer of Tanoa and reorganized the external command structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
At the same time, several other regional commands were created to organize overseas territories, aligned administrations, foreign liaison zones, and operational networks. These included SS-Großabschnitt Afrika, SS-Großabschnitt Europa, SS-Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik, and SS-Großabschnitt Asien. The creation of these commands allowed the central leadership in Georgetown, Tanoa, to issue orders through a smaller number of regional offices.
The South Atlantic and Pacific command was created because the regime depended heavily on maritime movement, island-linked administration, and long-distance communication between Tanoa and external areas. Its early work focused on route reporting, port contact, communication security, personnel transport, and coordination between island offices and the central leadership.
The command was not created as a separate colonial ministry. It acted as a regional command layer for maritime routes, attached personnel, and overseas offices connected to the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
Expansion and operations
[edit | edit source]During the 1980s and 1990s, the Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik became one of the most important regional commands for transport and external coordination. Its area of responsibility covered South Atlantic and Pacific-linked territories, island contact points, maritime routes, and support networks used by the regime.
The command helped coordinate the movement of personnel, documents, technical material, supplies, and security reports across long-distance routes. It also reviewed the reliability of ports, shipping contacts, island offices, and communication channels used by Tanoan personnel.
Because Tanoa was located in the Pacific region, the command had direct importance for the regime's wider external structure. It served as a link between the central government and regional support networks that could not be managed through the island administration alone.
The Großabschnitt did not hold direct authority over independent states across the South Atlantic and Pacific. Its authority applied to offices, personnel, liaison points, and support structures connected to the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Local administrations, collaborators, and transport intermediaries were used where they supported Tanoan operations.
Maritime and island administration
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik was closely connected to maritime administration. Its offices handled route planning, port communication, shipping reports, fuel access, transport scheduling, and regional movement records. These reports were sent to central institutions in Georgetown, Tanoa, and were used to assess the security of overseas connections.
Island-linked administration was another major function of the command. The Großabschnitt supervised Tanoan contact points, small regional offices, administrative detachments, and local liaison structures in areas connected to South Atlantic and Pacific routes. These offices collected information, maintained communication with central authorities, and supported the movement of personnel and supplies.
The command also coordinated with other Großabschnitte when routes crossed regional boundaries. It worked with SS-Großabschnitt Afrika on South Atlantic movement connected to African territories, with SS-Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik on wider Atlantic coordination, and with SS-Großabschnitt Asien on eastern maritime routes and Pacific-linked transport.
External political issues were handled through the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten when the command dealt with foreign contacts, local administrations, or external intermediaries. Political supervision of regional administration was connected to the Amt für Regionale Politische Verwaltung, while legal and administrative rules were connected to the Amt für Staatliche Rechtsordnung.
Later years
[edit | edit source]During the 2010s and early 2020s, the Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik continued to operate as a regional command office within the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its work remained centered on transport coordination, maritime security reporting, island-linked administration, and communication with overseas support structures.
By this period, the command was increasingly focused on the reliability of shipping routes and communication lines. Reports sent to Georgetown, Tanoa, covered port access, regional security, supply movement, financial disruption, local contacts, and the condition of island offices.
The weakening of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in 2024 affected the command directly. Maritime routes became less reliable, financial channels deteriorated, and several external support networks became inactive. After the death of Eef Paap and the collapse of central authority, the command lost the ability to operate as part of a coordinated state structure.
The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik remained active until the formal dissolution of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.
Structure
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik was organized as a regional command office of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It coordinated maritime access, island-linked administration, transport reporting, political liaison, personnel movement, and communication between overseas contact points and the central leadership in Tanoa.
The command operated under the authority of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It was part of the wider Regional Großabschnitte framework and did not issue independent laws. Political, legal, and administrative directives came from central institutions of the regime.
The command staff managed registry files, correspondence, transport reports, security assessments, port records, supply requests, and liaison files. Local offices and attached contact points were expected to report through the Großabschnitt before routine requests were sent to central offices.
Governance and administration
[edit | edit source]The Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik functioned as a regional administrative command responsible for implementing directives issued by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen within South Atlantic and Pacific-linked routes, island offices, and overseas support networks. It was not a ministry, court, legislature, or independent government.
Political supervision of the regional command system was connected to the Amt für Regionale Politische Verwaltung. External political coordination was handled through the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten when liaison work involved foreign contacts, local administrations, or political intermediaries. Legal and administrative rules were connected to the Amt für Staatliche Rechtsordnung.
Within its assigned sector, the Großabschnitt supervised the handling of reports, transport requests, personnel files, port contact records, and regional security communication. Its work helped connect maritime and island-linked networks with the wider command structure of the regime.
Leadership
[edit | edit source]No named commander of the Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik is currently documented. The command is therefore listed without an individual Großabschnittsführer. Its authority remained subordinate to the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and the central command structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.
