Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung (English: Office for Propaganda and Public Guidance) was a central party office of the NSTAP within the political structure of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It was responsible for propaganda policy, public messaging, political announcements, controlled press material, and the public presentation of the regime.
The office formed part of the party apparatus of the Government of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It worked closely with the Parteiamt für Politische Führung, the Amt für Ideologische Schulung, the Reichsministerium für Kommunikation und Informationswesen, and the Paapjugend. Its role was separate from internal ideological training, which was handled by the Amt für Ideologische Schulung.
History
[edit | edit source]The Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung was established in 1951, during the early consolidation of the NSTAP as the ruling political party of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its creation followed the expansion of party structures across Tanoa and the need for a central office to control public political messaging.
During the first years of the regime, propaganda was produced by local party officials, military officers, and administrative representatives. These early efforts were inconsistent and depended on local conditions. The creation of a central propaganda office allowed the party to standardize public messages and connect them directly to the political line of the leadership.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the office became one of the main instruments used by the NSTAP to present the regime to the population. It issued slogans, speeches, printed notices, public statements, and material used by local party offices. It also worked with the Paapjugend to create youth-oriented political material.
Under Eef Paap, the office remained active as part of the regime’s public control system. It coordinated official messaging during political campaigns, administrative announcements, security incidents, and public ceremonies. The office continued to operate until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in November 2024.
Organization
[edit | edit source]The Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung was headquartered in Georgetown, where its central leadership, editorial staff, and administrative sections were based. It was subordinate to the NSTAP and operated as a party office within the wider political structure of the regime.
The office was organized into sections responsible for public announcements, printed propaganda, political speeches, visual material, youth messaging, and coordination with state communication bodies. Regional party offices received instructions from the central office and adapted them for local use.
The office did not control all communication infrastructure by itself. Technical communication systems, official broadcasting channels, transmission networks, and state information services were connected to the Reichsministerium für Kommunikation und Informationswesen. The propaganda office set the political message, while the communications ministry supported the official distribution of information.
Functions
[edit | edit source]The main function of the Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung was the production and coordination of official propaganda. It prepared public statements, political slogans, speeches, posters, official notices, and party publications.
The office also supervised the public language used by party officials and administrative representatives. Local branches of the NSTAP were expected to follow the wording and themes approved by the central office when addressing the public.
It worked with the Amt für Ideologische Schulung in areas where propaganda and internal education overlapped. The ideological training office prepared material for party members and officials, while the propaganda office focused on public communication and mass messaging.
The office also coordinated with the Paapjugend. Youth events, public marches, ceremonies, and recruitment campaigns often used material prepared or approved by the propaganda office.
During periods of unrest or military pressure, the office issued controlled statements intended to maintain public discipline and support for the leadership. These statements were distributed through party channels, administrative offices, and communication bodies linked to the state.
Role within the regime
[edit | edit source]Within the political system of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, the Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung served as the main office for public political messaging. Its work helped present the authority of the Führer of Tanoa, the NSTAP, and the wider state structure to the population.
The office did not command security services, military formations, or police units. Its influence came from its control over official language, public presentation, and the approved political image of the regime.
The office also supported the one-party structure of the state. Since the NSTAP was the only legal political party within territories governed by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, the propaganda office played an important role in presenting party policy as state policy.
Its work connected public communication, political loyalty, and administrative control. Public messaging was used to support state campaigns, explain government decisions, and reinforce the ideological position of the regime.
Relations with other institutions
[edit | edit source]The Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung worked closely with the Parteiamt für Politische Führung, which coordinated the broader political direction of the NSTAP. The propaganda office translated party decisions into public material and official messaging.
It also worked with the Amt für Ideologische Schulung. The two offices were closely related, but their functions were different. The ideological training office dealt with internal political education. The propaganda office dealt with public messaging and mass communication.
The Reichsministerium für Kommunikation und Informationswesen was one of the most important state bodies connected to the office. The ministry handled communication systems and information channels, while the propaganda office supplied the political content and public messaging line.
The office maintained links with the Paapjugend, regional party offices, and administrative authorities across Tanoa. These bodies helped distribute approved material and organize public events.
Dissolution
[edit | edit source]The Amt für Propaganda und Öffentlichkeitsführung ceased to function during the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in November 2024. After the death of Eef Paap on 24 November 2024, central party authority began to break down.
By 30 November 2024, the office had formally ceased to exist along with the wider NSTAP party apparatus. Its remaining offices, publications, and communication files were dismantled or absorbed into the broader collapse of the regime’s administrative structure.
