The Waffen SS was the main combat and field military branch of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. While the Allgemeine SS focused on political control, administration, and internal security, the Waffen SS was primarily responsible for military operations and armed campaigns.
The main office of the Waffen SS was located in Rada Tilly, Argentina. From there, it directed large-scale military deployments across South America and parts of Africa.
History
[edit | edit source]The Waffen SS was formed in 1949 as a paramilitary unit of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. In its early phase, it functioned as a structured but limited armed formation responsible for regional security support, territorial reinforcement, and auxiliary combat duties outside the administrative control of the Allgemeine SS. Although separate in command, its size and operational scope remained restricted during this period.
Between 1949 and 1970, the organization developed training programs, basic armored capabilities, and regional detachments, primarily based in Argentina. Its central office was established in Rada Tilly, where command planning and recruitment were coordinated. During these years, the Waffen SS operated mainly in support roles and localized enforcement operations in South America.
Around 1970, the Waffen SS underwent significant expansion and restructuring into a full-scale military force. Divisions were formally organized, heavy equipment was standardized, and long-term deployment capabilities were introduced. From that point forward, it operated as the primary external combat arm of the regime, conducting sustained military operations across South America and later in parts of Africa. Although the island of Tanoa remained under the primary authority of the Allgemeine SS, the expanded Waffen SS became the regime’s main expeditionary and conventional warfare force.
In 2014, the Waffen SS played a central role in the conflict known as the Tanoan Conquest of the Falklands, also referred to as the Second Falkland War, which followed increased political tensions in 2013 between the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and the United Kingdom over control of the Falkland Islands. During the invasion, Waffen SS divisions participated in the first assault wave alongside units of the Allgemeine SS, with the objective of breaking through British defensive positions and securing landing zones for follow-up forces. Naval support was provided by the Kriegsmarine, which delivered coordinated artillery fire to assist the ground advance. After the initial breakthrough, Waffen SS formations were tasked with maintaining territorial control, securing transport routes, and reinforcing occupied positions. The campaign marked one of the largest external military operations conducted by the organization during the 2010s and demonstrated its role as the primary expeditionary force of the regime.
Organization
[edit | edit source]The Waffen SS operated as a structured military force with divisions, regiments, and battalions assigned to different operational regions. Its command system followed centralized leadership but functioned independently from the administrative hierarchy of the Allgemeine SS.
Unlike the security-oriented branches stationed in Tanoa and Fiji, the Waffen SS was rarely deployed on the island itself. Control of Tanoa remained largely under the authority of the Allgemeine SS. The Waffen SS instead maintained a strong presence in Argentina, other parts of South America, and selected African territories.
Uniforms and Equipment
[edit | edit source]Members of the Waffen SS wore gray field uniforms during standard operations. In desert and arid environments, especially in parts of Africa and northern Argentina, desert-adapted uniforms were used. These variations were designed for climate conditions and operational mobility.
The organization operated armored vehicles, artillery units, and infantry formations suited for conventional warfare. Equipment and insignia were distinct from those of the Allgemeine SS to reflect its separate military role.
Activities
[edit | edit source]The Waffen SS conducted military campaigns, territorial enforcement operations, and armed suppression missions in regions under control of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its responsibilities included securing transport routes, protecting strategic facilities, and supporting expansion into new territories.
In Africa and South America, the Waffen SS coordinated large-scale ground operations and maintained long-term military garrisons. It also assisted other branches when armed support was required.
Dissolution
[edit | edit source]The Waffen SS remained active until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.
