== Geological history == Tanoa is of volcanic origin. The central volcanic structure, '''[[Mont Tanoa]]''', dominates the island’s geography and cultural identity. The last confirmed eruption of Mont Tanoa occurred in '''1966'''. Since then, the volcano has been classified as dormant. Minor geothermal activity remains present, but no renewed volcanic threat has been recorded.
