The name Fish Collective was adopted in 2021. The term Fish derived from the maritime background of the founders’ families. Mark and John both came from families connected to ship captains and seafaring work, and the reference became a shared symbolic identifier.

The term Collective reflected the group’s self-description as a voluntary association of individuals acting in coordination without formal command. The name also distinguished the organization from older resistance groups, criminal factions, and territorial militias. Mark Hugerinus Paap became the main symbolic figure of the organization. He did not hold a formal office equivalent to a commander or political leader, but his visibility, personal history, and operational role gave him the closest position to central leadership within the group. John Hugerinus Paap remained important in coordination, planning, and external support.
