== Government and administration ==
Turkey is a unitary presidential republic. The president serves as head of state and head of government and exercises executive authority. Legislative authority belongs to the unicameral Grand National Assembly, which passes laws and approves the national budget.

The judicial system contains ordinary and administrative courts. The Constitutional Court reviews the constitutionality of legislation and rules on constitutional disputes.

Turkey is divided into 81 provinces. A governor appointed by the national government administers each province, which is further divided into districts. Elected municipal governments manage local services and urban infrastructure.

Ankara contains the principal ministries and national courts. It is also the location of the Grand National Assembly and foreign diplomatic missions. Istanbul remains the country's largest centre for private business and finance.
