In 2022, Valeriu attended a private party near [[Sighetu Marmației]], [[Maramureș County]], close to Romania's northern border with Ukraine. He drugged and raped Chiara Bellocchio, an Italian woman who had travelled to the area with acquaintances. Bellocchio was later killed and dismembered. Investigators stated that Valeriu placed her head on a stake and set it in a bonfire in a field outside [[Săpânța]], where he remained while it burned. They also stated that he broke into a butcher shop in Sighetu Marmației and used an industrial meat grinder to destroy other remains. Bellocchio was 24 years old.
