The '''Großabschnitt Afrika''' (English: '''Greater District Africa'''), also referred to as the '''SS-Großabschnitt Afrika''', was the African regional command of the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]]. It formed part of the [[Regional Großabschnitte]] and operated under the [[Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]]. From its headquarters in [[Monrovia]], [[Liberia]], it transmitted orders from the central leadership to authorities in territories under direct Tanoan rule and to Tanoan-aligned puppet governments. Its staff coordinated regional security forces and exercised authority over the African camp and forced-labor system.<ref name="regional-commands"/>

== History ==
Before 1980, overseas offices and security missions of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen reported to the central leadership through arrangements created for individual territories or operations. The Großabschnitt Afrika was established in 1980, two weeks after [[Eef Paap]] became [[Führer of Tanoa]]. Because Eef Paap had only recently assumed power and was still a child, [[Jan Paap]], who had led the organization until that year, assisted with the creation of the new territorial command structure.<ref name="regional-history"/><ref name="eef-succession"/><ref name="jan-leadership"/> The same reorganization created the [[SS-Großabschnitt Süd-Atlantik und Pazifik]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Europa]], [[SS-Großabschnitt Nord-Atlantik]], and [[SS-Großabschnitt Asien]].

Monrovia was selected as the African headquarters because Liberia had been under Tanoan control since 1974 and had become the principal base for Tanoan political and military activity in Africa. The command initially operated through the puppet administration of [[Großliberia]]. Its jurisdiction expanded when [[Sierra Leone]] was incorporated into Großliberia in 1988.<ref name="liberia-grossliberia"/> [[Rwanda]] and [[Jubaland]] were placed under the Großabschnitt in 1991, while [[Namibia]] came under its authority in 1994.<ref name="rwanda-takeover"/><ref name="jubaland-incorporation"/><ref name="namibia-subordination"/> [[Annobón]] was placed under direct Tanoan administration in 2000 and became a transfer point between mainland Africa and South America.<ref name="annobon-history"/>

== Organization and administration ==
The Großabschnitt Afrika was subordinate to the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Territorial command matters were supervised through the [[Amt für Territoriale Kommandostrukturen]]. The [[Amt für Regionale Politische Verwaltung]] reviewed political administration and reports received from regional authorities.<ref name="regional-organization"/> Legal and administrative rules were issued by the [[Amt für Staatliche Rechtsordnung]]. The [[Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten]] handled communication with external governments and political intermediaries when the command dealt with puppet administrations.

In territories under direct rule, the regional staff supervised command offices and security detachments. Where an existing government remained in place, the Großabschnitt transmitted central directives through local officials and monitored their implementation. Puppet administrations retained civilian ministries and local offices, but decisions affecting security policy, foreign relations, border control, and regional reporting remained subject to Tanoan approval. Reports sent to [[Georgetown]], [[Tanoa]], recorded political conditions and the performance of subordinate authorities.<ref name="regional-functions"/>

The internal structure followed the organization used by the other Regional Großabschnitte.

[[Quique Miguel Ponce]] was appointed commander in 2020. Holding the rank of [[SS-Oberstgruppenführer]], he directed the command staff from Monrovia and supervised regional administration, logistics, and security operations.<ref name="ponce-command"/>

== Operations ==
During the 1980s and 1990s, the Großabschnitt expanded military bases and administrative barracks in territories under its authority. Logistics offices supported the movement of personnel and supplies between Monrovia and subordinate regional centers. The command also worked with local governments and militias that supported Tanoan rule.

Security units enforced the policy described by the regime as the "[[Golden order]]". Resistance organizations were suppressed through arrests and military operations. Villages classified as hostile were destroyed, while permanent security posts and patrol routes were expanded. Regional administrative offices also organized indoctrination programs for children. These programs promoted loyalty to the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and prepared selected children for later service in institutions controlled by the regime.<ref name="rwanda-security"/>

Members of the [[Féminas-abteilung Nacional de Eef Paap]] visited territories administered through the Großabschnitt. Contemporary reports described these trips as "pleasure tourism". Post-collapse investigations reported that women and children were abducted during some of the visits. The wider Féminas system used forced removal and confinement to supply women and girls to institutions controlled by the department.<ref name="feminas-crimes"/>

== Camp and forced-labor system ==

The Großabschnitt Afrika supervised a network of concentration camps and forced-labor sites within its jurisdiction. The camps held political prisoners and civilians classified as security risks. Other prisoners were detained after resisting labor assignments or attempting to leave controlled territory. Some facilities also served as transfer points between local security offices and permanent detention sites.

The [[Bau-Einsatz]] constructed camps and maintained their infrastructure. Its regional units also administered work details and supported prisoner transport.<ref name="bau-camp-system"/> Local security offices issued detention orders and supplied labor classifications. At some camps, daily administration was carried out jointly by Tanoan officers and collaborators serving in local puppet-state institutions.

The [[Annobón transit camp]] was established in 2003 under the supervision of the Großabschnitt Afrika and became fully operational in 2004. Construction and maintenance were handled by the Bau-Einsatz. The camp functioned as a maritime holding and redistribution facility for detainees moving between African territories and South American sites.<ref name="annobon-history"/><ref name="annobon-administration"/>

The [[Gbarnga death camp]] was constructed between 1992 and 1993 in Großliberia. It was formally subordinate to the Großabschnitt, while daily administration was conducted by Tanoan personnel and Großliberian security officers. Local collaborators guarded prisoners and managed camp records under the direction of the regional command.<ref name="gbarnga-history"/><ref name="gbarnga-administration"/>

== Collapse and aftermath ==
The Großabschnitt remained active during the collapse of the central Tanoan government in November 2024. Ponce died on 24 November at [[Ravi-Ta]], ending his command six days before the formal dissolution of the regional framework.<ref name="ponce-death"/> Communication between Monrovia and Georgetown deteriorated after the deaths of Ponce and Eef Paap. Transport connections and financial channels ceased to function, causing command offices to be abandoned or divided among local personnel.

The Großabschnitt Afrika formally ceased to exist on 30 November 2024.<ref name="regional-dissolution"/> Its dissolution did not immediately end every structure that had operated beneath it. Tanoan remnant personnel and local collaborators continued to control camps, depots, prisons, and security offices after the central government had fallen. The Gbarnga death camp remained operational until March 2025.

The [[African Christian Liberation Front]] was formed in December 2024 to fight Tanoan remnant forces and remaining offices of the former Großabschnitt. Its units captured regional records and released prisoners from sites that remained under guard.<ref name="aclf-formation"/> In March 2025, the organization liberated the Gbarnga death camp with assistance from members of the [[Fish Collective]] and Tanoan resistance groups.<ref name="aclf-west-africa"/>
